From worldcarfans.com: The new Chevrolet Aveo has been spied doing the rounds ’round the ring. Probably schedule for a launched in mid-2010, it looks like GM engineers are trying to make a car that will out-handle the Fiesta, Fit, and Yaris.

With Chevrolet being GMs new global brand carrier, the Aveo must compete well in every country GM is in. It will replace the Chevrolet Viva in Latin America. It has to be really good as the current Aveo is the only domestic subcompact competing with the Japanese Fit and Yaris. Equally important is that it gives GM a fresh small car for the Chinese and Indian markets.

Expect the normally aspirated version of the direct injection 1.4 liter 4-cylinder engine found in the Cruze to find its way into the Aveo’s nose. It sits on the same Gamma 2 platform as the Corsa and the smaller 2010 Beat/Spark.
