Ford_FigoAfter writing about the the possibility of the Mazda2 coming here, Ford now concedes that a new supermini will be coming to India and the Asia Pacific. So instead of the great Fiesta, we’re going to get the car picture above. So far, insiders say the car will be called the Figo, which means “cool” in Italian. Really?

It’ll probably be powered by the current 1.3l and 1.5l engines in the Fiesta. Details are being kept close at hand by Ford, except that the car will be built in a not-yet built facility in Chennai. Ford also plans to export the Figo to other countries in the Asia Pacific region soon afterward.

The one bright spot is that Ford is also planning to build an engine factory that will make small petrol and diesel engines. If the current Ford Ikon is an indication, we can expect the Figo to be fitted with a 1.4l oil-burner.
